Tan Hoa Village is located in Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. It is known for its natural beauty, cultural richness, and the Tu Lan Cave System, which has been chosen as the filming location for several domestic and international movies. The village covers an area of 72.4 km² and has a population of 3,355 – all of whom are “Nguồn” people.
The village is situated in a large, flat valley surrounded by limestone mountains, with the Rao Nan river running through the middle and dividing the valley into two banks. Tan Hoa residents mainly settle along these sides. The Rao Nan River originates on the Vietnam-Laos border and runs underground for almost three kilometers in Ruc Cave (Trung Hoa Commune) before flowing down to Tan Hoa village. The village is a flooding center in Quang Binh Province, and it experiences floods every year in October and November, with a high water level up to 12m deep.
In recent years, Tan Hoa has become a popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. The village has financed around 700 floating houses with a new design that can accommodate a family of at least six people and their necessities to survive floods. This serves as the foundation to make Tan Hoa a weather-adaptive tourism village.
Starting from November 2022, the local authorities of the village, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism of Quang Binh Province, have developed a project to turn Tan Hoa into a community tourism village operated by local people themselves. This includes homestays, dining experiences with local dishes, and tours to visit the cultural beauty of the “Nguon” community. The project aims to expand from community involvement tourism, where locals work in tour logistics, to community ownership, where locals are the owners of homestays, dining experiences, etc.
